Trust

There are two types of trust.

Trust1
being able to completely predict your every move. This is reliable in that I have sufficient knowledge to know how you are likely to react in any situation. A person who I trust1 will be an able ally. This should not be confused with their doing what I like or in any way being approved of.

In that their actions are predictable, I can plan accordingly. If I can predict that you will be a complete washout in something, and you are trust1worthy, then I will know not to include having you do that thing in my plans. I can rely on your strengths and not expectthings from your weak spots. This sort of reliability is necessary to trust2 relationships, but does not require trust2.

Trust2
Trust2ing you involves an emotional commitment that you are on my side, that you understand me well enough to make decisions for me that I would approve of. Trust2 is akin to love although not the same. It requires more than mere predictability from you. It also requires that you have my best interests at heart and that you know what they actually are.

This is an almost impossible form of trust. However, it is achievable, and sustainable given sufficient communication between two people and a high enough ability to understand each other's true inner desires and motives.
